Ruins of Rhosydd Quarry
In the foreground slate from a collapsed building is cast across the ground while in the background are the remains of the barracks where quarrymen lived whilst working in the quarry. Slate was first found here in the 1830s and quarry work began in the 1840s. Work reached a peak around 1880 with some 200 men working In 1900, the quarry suffered a major setback when the 'Great Fall' occurred underground destroying a large part of the most profitable reserves. Work at the quarry ceased in 1930.

I first discovered this site in 1984, and have returned a couple of times since, always finding the site interesting both from an industrial archaeology and photographic point of view.
