SS Robin - high and dry
SS Robin - high and dry
In Royal Victoria Dock. The Robin is a classic steam coaster built in 1890 by R Thomson of Blackwall. She is 143' long and of 366 tons gross (a measure of volume, not weight). She has a triple expansion engine by Gourlay Bros of Dundee. She was sold to Spanish interests in 1900 and operated in to the 1970s. She was acquired by the Maritime Trust and displayed at St Katharine Dock until 1986 and then was at West India Dock. She has just had a major restoration and is now to be displayed on this floating pontoon.
