Taunton: railway water tank
This tank, seen through a zoom lens across the levelled waste land of the cattle market from Priory Bridge Road, is of typical Great Western design. The rusted traces of British Railways lettering, in Gill Sans capitals, showed up quite well, without being wholly decipherable. I could make out "British Railways", "Taunton" and "Freight". The other side of the tank, though, clearly visible from the train, is north-facing and better preserved, and retains the full wording: "British Railways Taunton Freight Concentration Depot". The tank is marked as a pumping station on old maps; apparently water was drawn from the canal. For another, closer, view, see ST2325 : Tower at Firepool.
