The houses of Crinan Harbour at low tide
Crinan Harbour is a mere coastal hamlet with safe moorings for yachts and a pontoon for dinghies.
The white van is a travelling store selling a variety of foodstuffs.
The tall brick chimney was part of the pyroligneous acid works built in the 1840s.
This converted wood into charcoal and collected the "wood vinegar" (mostly a watery acetic acid) for use as a mordant (colour fixer) in the dying of cloth.
