Cutting on the former Chichester to Midhurst line
Cutting on the former Chichester to Midhurst line
Opened in 1881, the line ran passengers and freight until 1935. Freight continued the full distance until 1951 when an embankment north of Cocking was washed away, resulting in a train crashing into the hole.
Two years later the line closed to Singleton and Cocking leaving just Lavant open for general freight until 1968 and sugar beet in 1970.
