This memorial is dedicated to the memory of the teachers, pupils and civilians who were killed in the Freckleton Air Disaster.

On 23rd August 1944, a USAF B-24 Liberator heavy bomber crashed into the Holy Trinity Church of England School, demolishing three houses and the Sad Sack Snack Bar. The memorial carries the names of 2 teachers, 38 infants and 7 civilians who were killed SD4228 : Freckleton Air Disaster Memorial (detail). The full toll, including British and American airforce personnel caught up in the destruction, was that a total of 61 people perished in this incident which ranks as probably the worst air accident in Britain during the Second World War.
