Nether Largie Mid Cairn
The cairn was much robbed of stones when it was exposed in the 19th century after the protective layer of peat was dug for fuel.
The stone was used for land drains and roads.
The cairn is one of many that were developed along the Kilmartin glen valley floor.
It was probably built around 2000 BC, but the area was already known by then for its (even more) ancient monuments: chambered tombs, stone circles and standing stones.
This cairn was excavated in 1929 and contained two empty stone cists.
