Kirkwall: the A962 – Britain’s shortest ‘A’ road
Kirkwall: the A962 – Britain’s shortest ‘A’ road
Looking along Castle Street from its junction with Junction Road (it continues behind us as West Castle Street).

The designation A962 is coterminous with Castle Street at both ends, linking the A963 (foreground) with the A960 at the top of the hill. Officially measured by Orkney Council at 117m in length, this is thus the shortest A-road in Britain.
