Bwlch ar y Fan
It is argued that this pass or bwlch is a very ancient one, carrying a Roman road over the Brecon Beacons, and therefore possibly following an even more ancient Iron Age, Bronze Age or even older human pathway. Who knows, but that v-shape does argue for long use by humans and hooves, and the gradient is so steady, both gaining and losing height that only peoples with absolute expertise in crossing upland landscapes could set the optimum course.
