Woods, Loch Maree
Woods, Loch Maree
This is an industrial shot! Loch Maree was a centre for iron smelting, names like Furnace give the game away. A legacy of this industry is that the lochside is well wooded, smelters tended and cherished the trees they coppiced for charcoal and the area was spared the worst of deforestation. The woodland on the sunny east shore is mainly birch and sessile oak and is rich in wildlife.
