Geograph - photograph every grid square

The signals control a crossing for sand and gravel quarry traffic, which does not yet appear on aerial photos. Without recourse to GPS in this altered landscape, I have assumed that the 23 easting is between the light and the crossing.
Judging by old maps, Mercote Hall was a country house at approximately SP224801. It appears on OS maps of 1887 and 1904 but only one range of buildings is present from OS 1937 up to 1986. A local resident believed the site had been used to hold prisoners of war, but did not know which war. There is nothing on the site now. The small parcel of woodland south-southwest of modern Mercote Mill Farm is the site of the grounds of Mercote Hall. It was sometime part of the Berkswell Hall estate.
