Path behind the seawall, leading to Thorney Island
From the main Thorney road (at SU 756 049) a footpath runs WNW between hedges to reach the seawall here. This gravelly track runs south parallel to the seawall towards the MoD checkpoint at the west end of Great Deep.

Access through the (unmanned) MoD checkpoint on to Thorney Island shouldn't be a problem - you press a button and are let through, on foot or with a bike. However, once on the island you have to keep to the seawall path - the aerodrome, though no longer used, is out of bounds. Similar arrangements exist on the east side of the peninsula, so that a round trip is possible - easier on a mountain bike than on foot.
