The monument was erected by "Lochbuie", the local laird "and his Highlanders", to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. It was followed five years later by a similar structure down near the shore in Lochbuie village NM6024 : The Green at Lochbuie to commemorate the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
