SP2280 : Track to Mercote Mill Farm

taken 7 years ago, near to Four Oaks, Solihull, Great Britain

Track to Mercote Mill Farm
Track to Mercote Mill Farm
The farm buildings are just beyond the trees, right. The track crosses land that appears to remain fallow following restoration of sand and gravel workings; see for example SP2280 : Berkswell Quarry being worked, Simon Jobson's photo of six years ago. Old maps show a brook or mill feeder across here from the former Mercote Hall, behind the camera, north to the mill: no sign of it now. Mounds of sand and gravel appear beyond the scrub, left. The viewpoint is halfway up the bund in SP2280 : Bund near the site of Mercote Hall . Gorse (Ulex europaea) suggests a patch of acid soil.
