Just a suggestion regarding the "interesting concete area"
ST9147 : The road from Imber : it might be what is called a "washdown area" : it is near the junction of three tank trails. The vehicles are often washed clean of mud when coming off the range, to avoid muckying the local roads, and also (not least) to clean up their headlights, license plates etc. and ensure crews can dismount without getting too clagged-up. In some locations the washdown may be fitted with fixed plumbing and drains, or sumps to take spilled fuel etc. In remote locations, water would be carried in in support vehicles or water bowsers.
