Volks Railway
The original line was built only as far as Banjo Groyne when opened in 1883 and was extended to Black Rock in 1901 some say as recompense for Volk's agreement to close the Daddy Longlegs line. Originally the line ran from Banjo Groyne along a metal then timbered viaduct which was still visible after the Second World War, however, since then longshore drift and sea defences have ensured that the gap has been filled with shingle. Madeira Drive is on the right and Banjo Groyne can be seen in the distance.
