Hatchment, Church of the Holy Trinity
Hatchment, Church of the Holy Trinity
The hatchment is under the west tower.

A lozenge shaped panel decorated with the coat of arms of the deceased, hung first outside his house and later in church.

In the past on the death of a local notable or landowner, his or her coat of arms was emblazoned on a board or canvas and enclosed in a black fame, and displayed on their house front for a period of mourning. The hatchments were then removed to the parish church for display.
