It is headed by Collett 0-4-2T No. 1427 (built 11/33 as No. 4827, renumbered 11/46, withdrawn 6/60). The service ceased from 3/11/58 (goods 1/9/62), but was taken over in 1969 by the Dart Valley (South Devon Railway from 1991).
Auto train
An 'auto' aka 'motor' train, or 'push-and-pull' train ran with cable connections from the driver's special compartment with window at the other end of the train (usually one coach), so that when in pushing mode the driver controlled the locomotive remotely, only the fireman staying on the footplate.
