Mouse carving on the gatepost of the church of St. Michael and St. George, Castleton
There are several carvings of tiny mice inside the church, created by Robert Thompson, known as the "mouse man of Kilburn". This example is not well preserved because of its life out of doors. Thompson (1876 - 1955) was a furniture maker who lived in Kilburn, North Yorkshire. The mice became his trade mark appearing on pews, altar panels, screens and furniture.
