Nissen huts at Swallows Farm
This was a portable military building conceived during the Great War by Major Peter Nissen of the Royal Engineers and built very extensively thereafter. It is often an indicator of an old military site or the presence of one in the general area, as surplus purchasers would not want to transport them too far.
