Although this track has been used in more recent times to access nearby quarries, this actually forms a more ancient track that runs over the Black Mountain. This could so easily have become the main road over the Black Mountain - its entire route can be followed even on modern maps from this location to Brynamman.

This is actually marked as a viable highway, equal in status to the now main road over the Black Mountain on some early maps.
