Near Admiralty Arch, this statue by Anatoly Novikov commemorates the 50th anniversary of manned space flight. Yuri Gagarin was the Russian cosmonaut and the statue is a gift from the Russian Federal Space Agency to the British Council. Gagarin died in a plane crash in 1968,aged 34.
