Kennet & Avon Canal, Semington
Although commercial carrying on the canal network finally died in the early 1970s, some canals ceased to carry traffic much earlier than that. The Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal, which wandered across country from here to Abingdon on the River Thames, effectively closed in 1906 and was formally abandoned in 1914. Here at Semington the only sign that it ever existed is this bricked up bridge (on the right) but there are plans to revive it.
