Matching Aerodrome
This is one of the perimeter tracks of the former RAF Matching. It is currently used as a flying club runway. I assume from the size of the hangars that micro lights are the main types operated. RAF Matching was laid out during 1943 It was transferred from RAF to USAAF command in March of 1944 however the first USAAF B26 Bombers had arrived in January of that year. After only a few months operations the base was placed under “care and maintenance” It was then used as a glider training base a few aircraft from here took part in “operation varsity” see Link
. The base was returned to agriculture soon after the war, however the control tower remains extant at TL5511 : Matching ATC. For more info on RAF matching see Link
