In 1825 the noble proprietor the Earl of Seafield, at his sole expense,anxious to do his utmost to promote the prosperity of the town, commenced a new Harbour a little to the North East of the present one. It was finished in little more than three years and formed one of the safest Harbours on the coast and could be entered by vessels at a period of the tide when they durst not have attempted to reach the old Harbour.NJ5866 : The Old Harbour, Portsoy
