Cottages and old level crossing gate at Over Windmill
Cottages and old level crossing gate at Over Windmill
The level crossing gate presumably came from the nearby railway which was opened by the Wisbech, St Ives & Cambridge Junction Railway in 1847 and closed in 1970. It cannot though have been from Longstanton Road where a bridge crossed the old railway. It was possibly from the crossing at Long Stanton station to the east or the one at Swavesey station to the west. The railway has now been replaced by the Guided Busway which opened in August 2011. The cottages were presumably for the windmill rather than the railway as there was no station here.
