SE3388 : A bend in the Swale

near to Gatenby, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

A bend in the Swale
A bend in the Swale
The course of the Swale through the Vale of Mowbray is a sinuous one, the river having lost its power and speed that is seen above Catterick. Here it meanders slowly through rich agricultural land, but it is not to be trusted, as high flood banks are necessary to prevent inundation of nearby farmland.
