Frieze on the Memorial to the Women of World War Two - Whitehall
This memorial is the largest bronze ever to be erected in London and is by John W. Mills, a monument to all the women of World War II rather than to individuals.
It shows the contribution of all women to the war effort by depicting their clothing symbolically hanging on pegs at their workplaces after they had returned home to resume normal life after the hardships they had suffered.
It is a permanent tribute to the contribution made by the more than seven million women during 1939 – 45 whose lives were changed in so many ways during the conflict.
