The Stone of Destiny
Formerly located just north of the Mound of the Hostages, the Stone of Destiny was moved to this position after the Battle of Tara during the Irish revolution of 1798. Some say the true Stone of Destiny was formerly the Pillow of Jacob referred to in the Old Testament. They also claim it was flat and that King Fergus of Scotland moved it from Tara and it became the Stone of Scone, the coronation stone of Scottish (and later, British) monarchs at Westminster Abbey. This stone is now kept in Edinburgh Castle. Some historians claim the granite pillar seen here to be the true Stone of Destiny but others argue that the Stone of Scone is the real thing.
