St Leonard’s Church, Stanton Fitzwarren
Compiled by Brian Robert Marshall
The church is Norman in origin but as is almost always the case has been extended, improved and restored at various times since it was first built. The chancel was rebuilt in the 14th century whilst the tower is quite recent (relatively speaking) dating to the 17th century. The latest additions include the south porch added in the 1890s. Some Norman features remain including doorways in the north and south walls (the south example having been restored and blocked up).
