Plaque to Cecil Spring Rice, Aira Force
A plaque on the lower bridge commemorating Cecil Spring Rice (1859 – 1919) ‘poet, privy councillor, H.M. Ambassador to the United States of America during the Great War.’ The bridge was built by family, friends and colleagues in 1931. His verses ‘I vow to thee my country’ were set as a hymn to a tune from the Jupiter movement of Gustav Holst’s suite ‘The Planets’.
