Honister Pass seen from the slate mine
Honister Pass seen from the slate mine
The structures on each side of the road are remnants of workings associated with the slate mine. Slate has been quarried here since 1728 but operations ceased in the early 1990s. The mine was re-opened primarily as a tourist attraction in 1997 and still produces small quantities of roofing slate.
