Chancel ceiling of St Mary the Virgin church
Chancel ceiling of St Mary the Virgin church
This ceiling showing angels, cherubim and texts was painted in about 1672 by Thomas Francis. It is a most unusual survival from the period. In the centre is the shield of the Trinity, in Latin. Around the outer triangle we are reminded that the Father is not the Son is not the Holy Spirit is not the Father, and in the spokes, that the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God.
