Prince Consort's statue
Prince Consort's statue
This statue of Prince Albert on horseback opposite Smith's Lawn was a present from 'The women of the Empire' to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee in 1887; 26 years after Albert died but it was what Victoria wanted. It was unveiled by the Queen on 12 May 1890, on the biggest occasion in Windsor for some time, including seven Royal carriages.
The statue was designed by JE Boehm and cast in bronze at the Thames Ditton foundry. It is twice life size. The plinth is 90 tons of Aberdeen granite.
