Edwin Sandys was born circa 1516, died 1588, he married his cousin Mary. They had one son. He was married a second time to Cecily Wilsford and they had 9 children.
He was bishop of London, Worcester and Archbishop of York.
Edwin Sandys founded Hawkshead Grammar School in 1585 and endowed it with sufficient land and property for it to offer a free education.
