A leaping salmon at Murray's Cauld near Selkirk
This salmon jumping at the cauld on the Ettrick Water at Philiphaugh has bounced off the foreground boulders and been turned upside down before falling back into the river to try again. Salmon have to use the fish ladder in the centre of the cauld in order to progress upstream to breeding grounds. Improvement works to the cauld have finished this year but will recommence in spring 2012. For a view across the cauld from the south bank, see NT4427 : Murray's Cauld.
