Bit of a chequered history!
The Manor, designed by architects William Sugden & Son, was built in 1885, originally named Wyndyate. It was built for Mr. Edwin Brough, a silk manufacturer from Leek in Staffordshire, who lived there until 1910 when it was sold. Brough was a breeder of bloodhounds. From 1910 to 1939 it was a private house, and was then sold to Scarborough Council who turned into a guest house. It then became a hotel and then once more ended up in council hands. It was bought by Whitbreads in 1995.
