The Craigantlet Road, on the north eastern side of Craigantlet crossroads J4376 : Craigantlet crossroads (5), looking towards Bangor. My guess is that this stretch, which is on the immediate approach to the crossroads, will be widened and will not be recognisable when the works are complete. The Crossroads church J4376 : The Crossroads church, Craigantlet (September 2011) is at top left.
Craigantlet road improvements (proposed) :: J4377

The following is a quotation from the Assembly Hansard written answers for Friday 7 October 2011 (AQW 2311/11-15)
“My Department’s Roads Service has advised that it is anticipated that a planning application and environmental statement for this major improvement scheme to upgrade two junctions in the vicinity of Craigantlet Crossroads will be submitted in autumn of this year.
However, the timescale for construction of this proposed scheme, which is expected to cost in the region of £2.1 million, will be dependent on the outcomes of the various statutory processes, land acquisition and the availability of the necessary finance.
While a firm commitment on funding for this project cannot be given until the various statutory processes have been successfully completed, the scheme remains a high priority for Roads Service.”
Note: the photographs submitted by me appear as a matter of record only. I have no connection with the Roads Service. They are intended to show the roads before any work starts and are not part of any campaign for or against the proposed scheme. There is no suggestion that any of the drivers were acting in an unsafe or illegal manner. All number plates and faces have been obscured.
The scheme is currently (August 2013) being reviewed in the light of local representations.
Caption amended 9 July 2015: so far there has not been any official announcement about the final design or when any work might start. A scheme (suggested after public consultation) involves the realignment of the Ballymiscaw Road (south of the present line) to a new roundabout close to the Ballymoney Road and the crossroads.
