Fish farm on the Loch of Strom
Fish farm on the Loch of Strom
Looking down from the Wheedran onto this disused fish farm. The original cages that were used to grow rainbow trout in the early 1980's can just be seen in front of the equally dilapidated house. It has all, very sadly, been left to go to ruin and the cages and walkways are slipping slowly beneath the water whilst the roof is coming off the house.
The modern cages to the left of the picture held seatrout but are also out of use at the moment. There was an outbreak of Infectious Salmon Anaemia at an unconnected site a few miles away and government regulations meant all sites falling within a certain radius had to be cleared and left fallow for a number of years.
