The Chapel door at Peterhouse, Cambridge
The Chapel door at Peterhouse, Cambridge
This magnificent old oak door has the date 1632 included in its design.

The late autumn sunlight gives a warm hue to the stone work of the Chapel which was built 1628-1632 by George Thompson (mason) under direction of The Master of the time, Matthew Wren (Christopher Wren's uncle) after he had the college's original hostels demolished. Previously the college had employed the adjacent Church of St Mary the Less as its chapel.

All the buildings around the Old and Gisborne Courts at Peterhouse are Grade I listed. The chapel contains some particularly fine 17th and 19th century stained glass windows. LinkExternal link
