Norwegian klondykers salting herring prior to packing
Norwegian klondykers salting herring prior to packing
Here the gutted and beheaded locally caught herring are salted and then packed into barrels. These are then transported to Northern Europe. This trade declined after 1970 with the demise of the herring shoals in the North Sea. Over fishing of the 'ocean common' was the cause of the decline.
