Restored gateway into churchyard
Restored gateway into churchyard
On the north side of the churchyard of St. Giles in Chesterton is this gateway used in former times as a private entrance to the church from the Manor House.
The gateway was built circa 1630 by Sir Edward Peyto, the design attributed to Inigo Jones. The gateway has undergone restoration which was completed in December 1990.
Note a previous photo shows an iron gate SP3558 : Restored gate at St Giles Church, Chesterton.. The small white notice on the wooden gate explains that some ironwork has been temporarily removed, and English Heritage are aware.
The gateway is Grade II listed. LinkExternal link
