Linthorpe Cemetery
The grave in the foreground is that of Moses Carpenter, a Native American of the Mowhawk tribe. Born by the Indian name of Ska-Run-Ya-Te he came to Middlesbrough in 1889 as part of a travelling medicine show. Within a few days he had succumbed to a fever and died of pneumonia within two weeks. In spite of being in the town such a short time the people of Middlesbrough were much affected by his death so far from home. Over 12,000 people were estimated to have lined the route from St. Paul's Church where his funeral took place to the cemetery.
