This little thatched cottage was included in South Tipperary Council's survey of thatched structures, along with 82 others (unlike the thatched former pub at Tankerstown:
R9929 : Derelict thatched former pub at Tankerstown, which was missed). It was recommended that all the structures identified in the survey were added to the Register of Protected Structures.
The inventory resulting from the survey reports that this cottage dates from pre-1840, and the walls are built of mud. Sadly, the cottage is no longer lived in, but the owner lights a fire in the hearth regularly and this helps keep the thatch in good condition.
The two-volume Inventory of Thatched Structures in South Tipperary is available for public inspection at the County Council's offices in Clonmel.
