Bollin Brook upper valley
Bollin Brook upper valley
Macclesfield Forest as now constituted is fairly modern commercial plantation that adorns some catchment areas of the Trentabank and Ridgegate Reservoirs. The original Macclesfield Forest was one of the royal hunting grounds and not necessarily wooded given the nature of the terrain. Toot Hill visible above the tree-line has intriguing earthworks of some antiquity perched on a convenient shoulder of the hill and giving extensive view to west and east.
