Childhood Wood
This area of Sherwood Pines Forest Park, known as Childhood Wood, is dedicated to children who lost their lives to mucopolysaccharide (MPS) disease, in which there is a deficiency of certain enzymes. MPS is degenerative & there is no cure. Most sufferers do not survive to adulthood. Planting was begun, in 1993, of oak saplings cloned from ancient Sherwood oaks, each one commemorating the life of a child who died from MPS. It is intended to develop and add to the area as the trees grow. For more information on Childhood Wood and the MPS Society, see Link
