SP0686 : Marie Corelli's gondola

taken 17 years ago, near to Birmingham, England

Marie Corelli's gondola
Marie Corelli's gondola
It is frequently said that Birmingham has more miles of canal than Venice. It also has Gondolas - well one at least, moored in the short arm behind the Mailbox. I am told, although I'd be grateful if anyone can confirm it, that this gondola formerly belonged to Marie Corelli and was used by her on the River Avon at Stratford. Marie Corelli is buried in Stratford-upon-Avon, and as can be seen from SP1954 : Marie Corelli's grave she remains eccentric even in death!
