Shobrooke Cross

Shobrooke Cross stands just west of the village of Shobrooke, on what would have been a key route east out of Crediton before the turnpike was built to the north (now the A3072). The fork right (opposite) leads one into the heart of the village and St Swithun's church: SS8601 : Shobrooke Church Devon. The main road (half left) continues towards Thorverton and the Exe Valley. To the left a minor lane leads north across the turnpike and into the heart of mid-Devon. To the right, behind the photographer, is SS8501 : Entrance into Shobrooke Park, nearest to Shobrooke, and a public footpath along the carriage drive.
Older maps show the junction also labelled as Five Crossways, reflecting the lane down to Newton St Cyres, which is just out of sight to the right. In the angle between the main road and the side road into the village is SS8601 : War memorial at Shobrooke Cross.
