Holly Bush on Homy Ridge, New Forest
Holly Bush on Homy Ridge, New Forest
This holly bush is laden with bright red berries. The surrounding bracken is dying back in the cold autumnal weather, turning a golden brown colour. I would speculate that Homy Ridge acquired its name via "Holm-y Ridge", that is a ridge bearing 'holms' - isolated stands of holly trees, sometimes incorporating oak trees.
