Westminster House, Portland Street, Manchester
Westminster House, Portland Street, Manchester
Large U-shaped office block clad in dark-brown and yellowy-brown brick, and two bands of exposed ribbed concrete. Designed by Fitzroy Robinson & Partners and completed in 1974.
Its largeness is due to this being built as County Hall, the headquarters of the former Greater Manchester County Council, abolished, along with the other metropolitan county councils, by Margaret Thatcher's government in 1986. Currently occupied by a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, and offices above. Information from LinkExternal link.
